If you are passionate about taking care of others and assisting them, the field of nursing could potentially be the ideal career for you. If you want to become a nurse, nursing school will be a necessity so that you can earn the certification and credentials needed to do the job efficiently and in a professional way. Nursing schools will give you with the education and tools that are needed to pursue a career in various fields of nursing.

In order to choose the right nursing school, you may want to figure out which type of nursing you prefer. There are many types of nursing careers available to choose from. Some of the choices you have include ambulatory care, cardiac care, geriatric nursing, emergency care, and even holistic nursing. Each of these choices relates to a different aspect of nursing. For example, as a geriatric nurse, you would be responsible for caring for elderly patients while holistic nursing has much to do with a natural approach to nursing. Once you figure out which type of nursing you prefer to do, you can search for nursing schools that offer lessons and curriculum that fall under that specific class of nursing that interests you.

Each organization has a definition of “whistleblowing,” but generally, it is the act of revealing wrongdoing to the attention of authorities. In the medical field, bringing attention to a serious problem could save a patient’s life. However, not all issues are life threatening. Sometimes, nurses see insurance fraud or similar misconduct.

Not everyone agrees that whistleblowing is proper, and some co-workers and supervisors call them “snitches,” “informants” or such. Others see them as heroes or responsible workers. Get more information here. http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2013/02/18/organized-crime-causes-spike-in-car-insurance-fraud/ When the problem is dangerous to people’s lives, it is a very useful tool. Although most nurses do not hesitate in these situations, they have a harder time deciding whether it is ethical in non life-threatening situations. Although misconduct like insurance fraud seems harmless, it can negatively affect a facility’s reputation and business rating.

There are two types of whistleblowing: internal and external. Internal means that the person tells someone within the organization, whereas external means that they tell an outside source, such as OSHA or the insurance company. Generally, people start by informing an internal source and turn to an external source if the problem isn’t resolved. Others find an external source to be more anonymous and safer.

While it certainly ought to go without saying that nurses are some of the most important people in the medical world, it is all too easy to sometimes view them in a poor light. Much of the problem stems from poor, preconceived notions of nurses spurred on by the media and even real-life. In medical dramas we see nurses portrayed as almost servants to the college-learned doctors and we even see doctors in the real world take certain liberties with the nursing staff in order to subjugate them further. However, if you are a nurse, then you are in charge of maintaining the safety of those under your care – you have to stand up and be heard.

Just because you are a nurse does not mean you don’t have a voice and, furthermore, does not mean you can’t affect change in the medical world. If a patient is being misdiagnosed and you know this, then speak up while presenting your evidence. If the hospital is using subpar equipment that could well be older than you or is getting energy supplies from an inefficient provider – if any of these things are threatening the lives of the patients under your care then you have the moral and professional obligation to speak out.

As a nurse, you are much more important than you might realize. It is up to you to make a stand when it comes to the lives of the people that are under your care. Do not get buried in politics.

Being a whistleblower or deciding whether or not you want to become one can present some rather difficult ethical questions. Society teaches us from a young age that it is often wrong to report our friends’ or colleagues’ wrongdoings or mistakes. It shows a lack of loyalty, and in the most extreme circumstances it could ruin the professional careers of many people including the whistleblower himself. This is perhaps the biggest reason why so many people are willing to look the other way or even outright lie rather than expose someone else’s mistakes or transgressions. Unfortunately, one can only look the other way for so long before ignoring or covering up a serious problem becomes just as morally reprehensible as selling out colleagues or friends.

Reporting a serious problem that would otherwise go unnoticed is always a big step to take, but in many cases it could lead to changes for the better. Equipment that was shoddily assembled because someone wanted to cut corners and save on time and money could fail catastrophically and seriously injure someone. A new medication that has adverse side effects that a drug company chooses to cover up could be harmful to millions of people. Irresponsible financial behavior on the part of a corporate executive could bankrupt companies and harm billion-dollar industries and further cripple this economy. These horrible things can and do happen when people choose to do nothing about them, which is why it is so important that there are people willing to take a step forward and expose these problems to the appropriate authorities.

Nursing is a profession that is very self rewarding. The hard work that you did in nursing school was worth it. Now, that you are employed as one, there are many things that you can do in trying to be the best nurse possible.

Keep learning. Always try to improve yourself by taking classes that will help your career as a nurse. Grow with all the new technologies and procedures that are constantly evolving and changing.

Always be professional in your behavior towards your patients and co-workers. As with any career, there can be good days and bad ones. The full explanation can be found at http://medhealthwriter.blogspot.com/2011/09/support-your-school-nurse-even-if-you.html Try and keep your temperance even.

Dress professionally and appropriately. Make sure that what you are wearing, along with your uniform, fit-s the environment that you are in. Also, dressing neat is very important.

Be on time every day that you are suppose to be at work. It is unprofessional to continually arrive at work even five or ten minutes late. Actually, arriving early benefits your co-workers, as well as you.

Be friendly and courteous even if it has been a long day. Patients, who are in the hospital or doctor-s office are sick. They really appreciate a nurse with a smiling face.

Today, there are more people choosing to study nursing than ever. Nursing can be a great career because it pays well and the field is stable. However, it is important to note that nursing is not the right profession for everyone. It takes a lot more than intelligence to be a good nurse. People who are interested in nursing should be caring, compassionate and hard-working. Nurses are also required to have a strong stomach because they may be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids. Additionally, nurses are also required to spend a great deal of time on their feet, those who are interested should be in good health.

If a person meets the aforementioned qualifications, then nursing may be the perfect profession for him or her. Being a nurse gives a person the opportunity to make the difference in the lives of others. The job market is tough, but people who graduate with a nursing degree will have a easier time finding a job because nurses will always be needed. Even though it takes hard work to become a nurse, most nurses will say that hard work pays off. People who can handle the pressures of being a nurse should definitely consider making it their profession.

The nursing profession is one of the most joyous professions that one can encounter. It also has heartbreaks and disappointments like no other job on the market has.

There are a lot of professions that one can work at and leave at the time clock at day’s end. Many nurses try to live by that theory; however, it is not that easy. Women and men generally go into the nursing profession because they have the desire to serve humanity. Because nurses are human it is difficult and sometimes impossible to divorce themselves from the job once their shift is over with and they leave for the day.

Nurses serve people constantly every day and serving others becomes a way of life. When a nurse leaves work they find that they are serving their families instead of their patients. If a nurse has been in his/her profession for many years, then the service to others is ongoing and becomes second nature.

When a nurse retires it seems as though the service to others is so ingrained in his or her mind and spirit that they continue to serve others, whether it is to serve family, neighbors, friends, church or family pets.
